Special Guest Speakers

Dave Montgomery Author,
Guitarist and Vocalist with one of our featured bands Big Dirt, Dave
Montgomery will be on hand to talk about his new book.
Dirt: The Erosion of Civilizations
"Insightfully chronicles the rise of agricultural
technology and concomitant fall of soil depth just about everywhere in the
world, from prehistoric to modern times. . . . More than a history lesson
of the legacies of past civilizations, the book raises a critical concern
for modern times. We are currently losing soil 20 times faster, on
average, than it is being replaced through the natural process. To meet
the demands for food and, more recently, energy, we need Montgomery's
scholarly, historical perspective, as well as the ability to project
current trends of land management to future scenarios."—Nature.
David R. Montgomery, Professor of Earth and Space Sciences at the
University of Washington, is also author of King of Fish: The Thousand-Year Run of
Salmon.
Nik Peace
Nik Peace represents the
directly interactive, theatrical aspect of
Intelligent Future (PeaceOnDemand),
at times serving food for thought
through humorous observations from a perspective not of this world.
Nik, a dedicated peace fan, is also a fan of fans and collects fans
of all kinds. He makes and sells folding peace fans that are
"efficient, inexpensive, and an immediately applicable solution to
global warming."
Angela Jaster
Angela is Director of Youth
Programs for Womenspace. She will talk about The Teen Zone, a place for
teens to learn about relationships--safe and violent. The Teen Zone is
part of
Womenspace,
an agency which
helps women and children in Lane County have safe and healthy
relationships. The Teen Zone gives teens the information they need to make
their own decisions about their own lives.
David Hazen
Oregon State Coordinator
The Peace Alliance Campaign
for a Department of Peace "The really important things don't happen in space and time, they happen in our hearts. Think with your heart, Peace is waiting for you there. Give yourself to Peace, and you become the Gift. Your Gift is the breath that blows the seed of passionate Love to Earth."
